LISTEN TO BABES

Monday 9th March – Monday of the 3rd week of Lent

Reflection: 2 Kings 5:1-15

LISTEN TO BABES

When a child below three years of age comes to you, with a serious look on his face, you would often think he is just trying to display one of his childish behaviours. So also it is when someone you regard as “a nobody”, or “a commoner” comes across to pass some relevant information to you, there is every tendency of neglecting the person or not taking the person too serious. Such is the world we are in today beloved. People are respected only when they can obviously be of great help or importance to one.

This should not be the attitude of a child of God. We must treat everyone with respect and the same degree of importance because we all carry the same image of God. The Scripture says, “O Lord our God, your greatness is seen in all the world! Your praise reaches up to the heavens; it is sung by children and babies”, (Ps.8:1); therefore we must listen to their sounds too.

Naaman the Syrian Commander is an example of one who listened to his servants and slave, and was able to get a life changing encounter from their advice. First, he listened to the advice of his slave girl to leave his country and seek healing from the prophet Elisha. Secondly he listened to the advice of his servants. Ordinarily he would have ignored them because of their low status, but because he adhered, he was healed. So my dear friend, the solution to that very problem you have been asking God for might just be very close to you. Are you neglecting getting help from someone you consider less important? That person might just be your “saviour”!

PRAYER: Ask God for mercy today, and ask Him to help you to recognize every helper He has placed in your path to destiny.

KNOW YOUR FAITH: CCC1930: “Respect for the human person entails respect for the rights that flow from his dignity as a creature”.

HIDE A TREASURE: “My brothers and sisters, as believers in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of Glory, you must never treat people in different ways according to their outward appearance.” James 2:1 GNB
