WE ARE ALL SOJOURNERS ON EARTH

Tuesday 9th December – Tuesday of the 2nd week of Advent

Reflection: Isaiah 40: 1-11

WE ARE ALL SOJOURNERS ON EARTH

“All flesh is grass and the beauty like the wild flowers. The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the Lord has blown on them. The grass is without doubt the people” (Isaiah 40: 6-7). No matter how beautiful or radiant a flower looks, it eventually dies off with the season. So it is with us, dear friends; our sojourn on earth is for a time. Regardless of the beauty of our human appearance or the height of our worldly achievements; irrespective of the pleasure we currently enjoy from life, all must definitely end one day. As certain as there was a day of entry into the world, so definite is an exit date (Hebrews 9:27)!

Beloved in Christ, what lesson must this constantly teach us? We should seek meaning to life beyond the transient; let us focus on that which has eternal justification beyond the shortness of our earthly existence. Dear friend, this is the essence of this liturgical season – Advent. The Church calls us to individually and collectively examine our preparedness for the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. She reminds us of the lovely intent of the Good Shepherd that none of His flock should get lost to the pleasures and distractions of this world.

What areas of your life is the Lord drawing your attention to for amendment? Let us this day heed the Lord’s call, for our sojourn on earth is for a while!

PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank you for your abundant love for me. It is my utmost desire to daily live in loving response to your great love. Please help me! Amen.

KNOW YOUR FAITH: CCC 678 – Following in the steps of the prophets and John the Baptist, Jesus announced the judgement of the last day in His preaching. Then will the conduct of each one and the secrets of hearts be brought to light. Then will the culpable unbelief that counted the offer of God’s grace as nothing be condemned.

HIDE A TREASURE: “For us, our citizenship is in heaven, from where we await the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ the Lord.” Philippians 3:20 CCB

Readings for Today: Isaiah 40: 1-11; Psalm 96: 1-3, 10-13; Matthew 18: 12-14
