HE KNOWS YOUR NEEDS

Wednesday 3rd December – Memorial of St Francis Xavier, Priest

Reflection: Matthew 15:29-37

HE KNOWS YOUR NEEDS

When the crowds came to Jesus bringing their sick to be healed by our Lord, they did not come with the expectation of being fed. However, Jesus was sensitive to their needs and did not want them to go home hungry. Indeed both their spiritual and material needs were important to Him. he knew their needs and set about supplying it even before they asked and the Scripture tells us that “they all ate as much as they wanted” (Matthew 15: 37).

Beloved, if Christ could do it then, He is still in willing and able to supply your needs. He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13: 8). Cast your mind back carefully and you will be able to identify needs which God supplied at a time you least expected. Let us not allow ourselves to be overcome by worry. Let us instead trust in the love that God has for us. Christ tells us: “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘what shall we eat?’ or ‘what shall we drink?’ or ‘what shall we wear?’…your heavenly Father knows that you need them all” (Matthew 6: 31-32).

What are you looking up to God for right now? What is that pressing need that is shaking your faith in God? Let your preoccupation be the pursuit of holiness while you ask God for your needs with faith and prepare yourself to receive His blessings in surplus. He is indeed Yahweh Jireh – the Lord our Provider.

PRAYER: Heavenly father, thank you for your great love. I trust in you to supply all my needs. Amen.

KNOW YOUR FAITH: YOUCAT 86 – Why should we petition God?

God, who knows us through and through, knows what we need. Nevertheless, God wants us to ask, to turn to him in times of need, to cry out, implore, lament, call upon him, indeed, even to struggle with him in prayer.
