WHOEVER IS NOT WITH ME IS AGAINST ME

Friday 10th October – Friday of week 27 of the year

Reflections: Luke 11:15-26

WHOEVER IS NOT WITH ME IS AGAINST ME

Often, we who consider ourselves Christians and friends of God, do so only for the convenience and gains it brings us, and worse-off because we look forward to inheriting a kingdom….Heaven!! These in themselves are not entirely bad motives to serve God. However, if these are the ultimate reasons for our devotion to God, then, we have missed the all important thing!

Above and beyond all things, God desires all men to be fraternally bound to him in eternal love and fidelity. From this union flows all the graces and favours we could ever ask or imagine; part of which is the reward of heaven, our eternal home. Yet, we cannot in our nature come to love God, so He anticipates us with his grace. For alone and unaided, we can neither please nor love God. While in this state of disunity with God, it does not matter how much we receive from God (for he gladly takes care of what he created, whether they have turned to him or against him).

Today’s reading shows us that what puts us on God’s side is not measured by the signs and wonders we do, (Beelzebub can do them too), it’s not the number of seeming pious works we do (for even the ungodly love their own too and sometime do the right thing), it is the Love and Faith we have in Him.

Take out sometime today dear friend and reflect on why you serve God. What if there were no miracles and there was no heaven to reward us; would we still love him and serve Him for whom He is? If your answer is no, you may need to reconsider if you are truly for God or against Him.

PRAYER: Lord, you desire all men for yourself, may I come to know, to love and to serve you, whether in good or in bad times. May we who are redeemed by the blood of you son never turn against you. Amen.

KNOW YOUR FAITH: CCC 2093 – Faith in God’s love encompasses the call and the obligation to respond with sincere love to divine charity. The first commandment enjoins us to love God above everything and all creatures for Him and because of Him.

HIDE A TREASURE:  “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23 RSV-CE
